Finding Your Goldilocks Zone
The clock hits 6 am and the church bells begin to sing, banging their way across Mission park, through my windows and into my body, happily buried beneath the layers of my bed. The birds have no respect for my morning slumber and are loudly discussing their worm-hunting agendas for the day. Rise and shine.
It's time to get up!
I stand on my feet, slip on some flexible clothing, immediately make my bed and head to the kitchen for a morning beverage. Now it's time to return to a chair, a sacred chair, in which I will partake in a series of self-centering and life-giving practices.
This chair is my anchor. It houses the habits and rituals that align me for the day ahead. It is here that I can hear. I meditate, I journal, I pray, I connect, I channel energies in whichever ways feel suitable for me. I tend to my mental, emotional and spiritual state of being.
When I first moved into this home, it took me a while to find the sweet location for these morning rituals.

Jillilocks and the Three Chairs
I first tried my living room sofa, a large and deep embrace that overlooks the city skyline. I liked the bright natural light and knew that vast views correlated with expanded thinking, but the energy was off. The excessively plush cushions made it difficult for me to hold my posture and alluded to unfocused, inconsistent meditations.
I needed a firm seat to ground my energy, so I crafted a new location. I stacked my favorite yoga blocks and placed them upon a plush faux fur rug in the center of the room. I liked sitting perched up high with a strong base, but something was still off. Centered in my living area, I could see my desk, kitchen, yoga area, and enticing objects that spread my awareness thin. With the visual and metaphysical presence of other items, I struggled to focus.
I finally tried the mini loveseat, nestled in the corner of my bedroom. This room is large, with lots of empty pockets that align with good "think space." There is little visual stimulation. Small windows allow sounds of nature and natural light to creep in, while the remaining space is accented by tiers of soft warm lamps and pendants.
The sofa here takes a strong rounded "U" form that perfectly hugs my body. Its tufted back is comfortable, yet firm and supportive, allowing for a clear channel of posture. It is deep enough that I can sit cross legged, or nestled with my knees tucked. A small tea table stands close by, housing my sacred objects. This space hits just right.

Snapping Into Your Energetic Grid
Here, my habits are supported. As I move through my morning rituals, everything flows in an effortless fashion. The meditations, revelations, creative downloads, and divinations all seem to function at maximum capacity. The energy is just right.
Sometimes, maintaining strong habits and rituals in our lives is simply a matter of finding the right space to house them. Our homes are seas of varying frequencies, and it is up to us to find where the energy precisely matches.
If you've ever decorated a room and arranged objects on a console, you might recall shuffling around these objects until suddenly, the arrangement felt just right. The heights, types, colors, and quantities perfectly balanced one another. You registered a "click in the system." You snapped into your energetic grid.
Every Habit Needs A Home
Every habit needs a home. In order to establish a new routine in your life, and make it stick, this routine needs an established presence in your space. It needs a slice of real estate.
By designating your habit to a particular area within your home, you are encoding your space with the energy of this ritual. As you repeat these actions over time, your space will become deeply encoded with that behavior. Before you know it, the practice will be instinctive and effortless.

Choose a new habit or routine that you'd like to implement.
Consider the practical ways that your space needs to support this habit, alongside the mental and emotional qualities. Allow yourself to play with several possibilities until you find your "Goldilocks Zone," where the energy is just right.
